Hello folks,
How have all been doing?! I've been busy lately with work (**boring alert**), some travelling with bae, reading as usual and photography (**my new found love, although it has been a year though**).
So, I think book subscription boxes, in general, are such great ideas, but I've never been able to find one that I actually really thought I would enjoy - until now.
The Big Book Box is an Indian based book subscription service that features some amazing and unique bookish goodies, fandom swag, art, food, exclusive author content (**that I bet you will not find anywhere in the world, if you wish to, nope I'm not exaggerating!**) in their boxes, besides the latest, up and coming books and pocket friendly subscription plans! They’ve been doing these monthly themed book boxes besides some regular themes like Harry Potter, Tiny Tots and Travel, and this was my first book box from them. And not to mention, their customer service is extremely helpful, warm and very friendly, replies almost within a moment.
The team at The Big Book Box gone above and beyond for June's theme “So, There is This Boy..” and every item in the box was curated perfectly and matched aptly with the theme. I just want to mention now to be aware of everything following in this post if you have not yet received your box.
You’ve been warned! If you are just curious about this lovely monthly book box, look no further and prepare to be amazed at all of the big book box glory!
THE UNBOXING
So, the first thing upon opening, beyond that blue paper was the June theme card that said, "So. There is This Boy.." printed on a black background, which looks super cool.
1st Book of the Month (BOTM 1): Looking For The Rainbow by Ruskin Bond (Hardcover)
Synopsis: At age eight, Ruskin escapes his jail-like boarding school in the hills and goes to live with his father in Delhi. His time in the capital is filled with books, visits to the cinema, music and walks and conversations with his father—a dream life for a curious and wildly imaginative boy, which turns tragic all too soon.
For years, Ruskin Bond has regaled and mesmerized readers with his tales. In Looking for the Rainbow, Bond travels to his own past, recalling his favorite adventures (and misadventures) with extraordinary charm, splotches of wit, a pinch of poignance and not a trace of bitterness.
The next item was yet another bookish thing that also I've been looking forward bit excitedly and that is the Professor Severus Snape Funko Pop, which is extremely cute, although the box of the funko pop was bit damaged, but Professor Snape was unharmed, after all, the guys at the big book box made sure that Professor Snape was protectively enchanted with magical spells.
**Look how cute he is, who can tell that this is the most brooding character in the Harry Potter series**
Then came the next book that I wasn't that excited about but wanted to give it a read since he is one of the most popular YA writers of current times. Yes Partick Ness' new book, Release is a empowering story about a gay teenage boy and syncs well with the month of the Pride. Once again, full marks to the Big Book Box for being so thoughtful.
2nd Book of the Month (BOTM 2): Release by Partick Ness (Paperback)
Synopsis: Inspired by Mrs Dalloway and Judy Blume's Forever, Release is one day in the life of Adam Thorn, 17. It's a big day. Things go wrong. It's intense, and all the while, weirdness approaches...
**Already managed some time to read this one, eye rolls angrily**
Another item that a bibliophile can never get enough of is a bookmark. Every book lover owns hoards of bookmarks of various shapes, sizes, colors, fabrics, textures and patterns. And this month we saw some cute magnetic bookmarks in this box that matched the theme of the month quite aptly.
**Aren't these adorable?**
Postcards, another item, that is a must for every book worm in the world, that is filled with motivating quotes and pretty backgrounds and graphics and, like always, the big book box included two postcards from Puffin publishers and once Scribble tile card, and I got the letter I. (**I hear they have a fun game on their minds, so waiting for that!**)
Another delight of the book boxes these days are including an edible item for their subscribers and the big book box too included an 85gm cylindrical can of Jackers potato chips of Barbeque flavor, which is no doubt very delicious, light, non greasy and crunchy. (**Yum, I'm already crunching and munching some while penning this unboxing blog post**)
Since I had subscribed to the Espresso box for the month of June, hence I received one extra book and that was something that stole the complete show. (**Sadly a book nerd only falls for books beyond everything else**) and the book is Ann of Green Gables from Puffin's V&A Edition that launched in the month of May.
Synopsis: When Anne Shirley arrives at Green Gables farm on Prince Edward Island, she surprises everyone: first of all, she is a girl. Marilla Cuthbert and her brother, Matthew, had specifically asked for an orphan boy. She has bright red hair that won't manage and a mouth that won't shut. Nothing will ever be the same at Green Gables!
A favorite story of generations of girls ever since it was first published in 1908, Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic story of one girl's profound effect on a small Canadian community has stayed in print for nearly one hundred years and has been made into a popular TV series and even a musical.
The last items from the box is a book card about two popular YA books, The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emily Barr and Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven. And another is their monthly newsletter magazine which is really cool and has lots of amazing articles and information about the bookish world, and its called, Barefoot Sunshine and you can subscribe it seperately, other than the monthly and themed book boxes.
Everything in this box was fantastic. One of my favorites till date! I really enjoyed the big book box and I am so grateful for the team who work so tirelessly to curate the boxes each month and to deliver them to each and every person who orders one. Well worth the price of the subscription if you ask me and they continue to amaze every Indian book nerd like me.
