"Keep Calm and Drink a Martini"

Delancey Stewart, an American author, has penned a new book, called, Men and Martinis which is the first book in the Girlfriends of Gotham series, which is about two women finding their way through the big apple and living like they belong here surrounded by hot men and martinis.

Synopsis:

It’s 1998…and New York City just might not be prepared for the Girlfriends of Gotham...

Natalie Pepper knows almost nothing about New York City, except that it’s far, far away from her home in California. When she packs up everything she owns and moves there on a whim, luck is on her side. She stumbles into a promising marketing job in the developing Internet industry and finds herself surrounded by poised and polished men who are nothing like the guys she knew back home.

One guy stands out from the rest… CJ: All-American hunk and genuine good guy. But they work together, and giving in to their mutual attraction could put Natalie’s sparkly new world at risk, so she resolves to look, but not to touch.

Natalie’s new friend Candace Kanie has no such concerns. From the barroom to the boardroom, she’s used to getting exactly what she wants, and her no-crap attitude ensures that nothing gets in her way. But when she meets Damon, the notorious playboy at Natalie’s company, she finds that her take-no-prisoners style might not be as effective in the romantic realm.

Frustrated and often irrational, Candace pushes for what she wants until something’s gotta give. And when it does, she realizes that the one thing she might not do better than anyone else is change.

Ahoy! All the Sex and the City fans, aboard this swanky yet sexy ride through the NYC where you're sure to come across some Sex and the City style cliches, fun, love and friendships, that makes the book quite appealing.

Natalie a California girl plans to make it big in the city of dreams- NYC. and since it's 1998 and the internet boom has just touched the city, she soon lands a job as a marketing director in a software firm, where her co-workers are hot as hell and unfortunately for Natalie, it's not easy for her to mess up her neatly oriented lifestyle by jumping into the pool of single-hot-dudes. But Natalie lived like a fast life, party, free booze, success, shopping, men until she met Candance.

Candance, a rich NYC girl who strangely lands a job in Natalie's firm and that too in a nightclub. Next her mission is to find love and her eyes and heart soon fall for Natalie's one of the hot co-workers who is also known for his playboy mannerism. And since Candance has happily playing with danger, she couldn't see when that danger started threatening her choices and decisions.

The author's writing style is really fun and crisp and she have layered her plots with full of ROFL moments and witty anecdotes. The authors have carefully chosen her words to write this tale which is a mixture of humor and heart-break. The book fell short in the department of melodrama which was too much to handle for me. I mean these women behaved like a teenager when it comes to love, but it comes to making decisions about their career and lifestyle, they suddenly became too wise. Hence, I couldn't much relate to this sudden change of demeanor in these characters.

The prose of the book is good enough to keep anyone engrossed into the story, although the book started with a much slower pace. The author can skillfully craft a non-dramatic-yet-sexy story into an entertaining chick-lit fiction.

The male characters are all swoon-worthy, delicious and incredibly hot. CJ and Damon both are a contrast to their characters. One is a playboy, while the other is an ideal boyfriend material, caring and touchy. One is high-maintenance, while the other is just the opposite. Yet their demeanor increased the glamor of the story.

The female characters are the heroines of their lives and they might give a feel of Carrie and her girl-gang type of charm. Firstly, what I liked the most that these women put their careers a top priority in their lives and then they took care of the heart matters. Their lifestyle will make you envy them. Moreover they developed with a progressive pace and that made me contemplate with these two women.

There is lot of romance and hot passion lingering in the storyline of the book. Especially Candance and Damon's chemistry increase the heat of the book, and the author have compassionately depicted their moments. Unfortunately the book falls short with romance and I wished the there were more scenes between CJ and Natalie.

Overall this is a fun and glamorous book that screams ENTERTAINMENT in capital letters, so if you want to have a good time with a bunch of few independent women living their lives in the Big Apple, then do read this series, since the first book is not enough as it ends with a major cliffhanger, leaving you wanting for more.

Verdict: A perfect read for the chick-lit fans.
